A Bowl Full of Lemons

I am a huge fan of lemons. They are so springy and fresh looking and the smell good to boot! Lemons usually don't last very long in our house, but for some reason, this bowl of lemons has yet to be intertwined into our meals this week.

To keep from having a bowl of wasted lemons, I started to rack my brain of all the ways I could use them. I mean, that's a lot of lemons to incorporate into one meal...talk about a major pucker.

So here's what I came up with:

Lemons are so versatile. They can be used in practically every area need them be.
  1. You can grind them in your garbage disposal to clean the blades and offer a fresh aroma.
  2. Set to a low simmer on the stove, your house will be filled with a lemony fresh scent.
  3. Squeezed lemon juice lasts even longer when stored frozen in the freezer.
  4. Zest the peel and make your own lemon pepper season. Talk about yummy!!

I'm not just offering these ideas, these are ways I use my lemons besides the usual cooking methods. It works and keeps you from wasting an essential ingredient and allows you a fresh smelling yet frugal home.

  3. Yes! I love lemons, too, and often have them in a bowl on display. :) I also use them in my garbage disposal but am going to have to try that on the stove-top! Great tip!

  5. you can put lemon halves in water in the microwave to help to de-stinky-fy it (can't think of the proper word). Especially if you've cooked something like fish in there, or something's burnt and left a nasty stink
