Spontaneity

The other night a strand of major thunderstorms rolled through our area. Loud strikes of lighting and rumbling skies of thunder so loud the house shook. For the girls it was an eye popping sorting of evening. For their Daddy and I, it was a nice shift from the hustle and bustle of our normal go-go-go sort of evenings.

The TV was turned off. The lights turned off too. All except for the occasional, "you he-ur dat?" or "it's waining!!!," the house was plenty quiet. We cuddled on the couch with pillows and blankets. We talked about the pitter patter of the rain, how the rumble of the thunder is really loud, and we even talked to the baby and felt her kick and move.

After a while, the girls started getting restless and requested we sing some songs for Daddy. A cute little show of the latest hits. Only the best songs for our favorite man of the house.

Twinkle Twinkle
This Little Light of Mine
Itsy Bitsy and
Jesus Loves Me

The storms continued into the night and even through the girls' normal bath time, so they were a no go. Off to bed without baths...and all the more reason to twist things up and enjoy early bubbles..right?

Sometimes it's nice to steer from the norm. To let go of what's "typical for the day" and make room for spontaneity and different. Like morning bubble baths, chocolate chip cookies for breakfast, cuddling in bed past 8 watching a movie or skipping normal routines all together. I'm thinking we're going to borrow last night's easy going groove and apply it through out our day today.
Who knows what else we'll get ourselves into.

  1. What a fun evening! We've been enjoying spontaneity a lot more this summer with Jacob not teaching so much. Love the bath pictures - the girls are adorable.
