A Bigger Pot

This weekend I could feel a cold creeping up on me and you know when you don't feel good something warm is all the comfort you're after. So, I made chicken and dumplings. Yup. The Mr was all for it too. The Littles ..eh...they wanted chicken wings. Go figure!

While I was making them, I had a light bulb kind of moment. An "Ah-ha!" if you will. All while trying to fit everything into a pot that was obviously-too-small-but-I-wasn't-giving-in. You know that story. It's similar to those days when we try to cram so much stuff into our day, into our hectic schedules, into our busy life. Those days that if we attempt to squeeze one. more. thing. in the pot is just going to overflow and burn. Like this....

One pot of chicken and dumplings overflowing in 3, 2, 1, go!!!
In this moment of revelation, it hit me. that's exactly what I've been doing. I've been adding so much to my pot that I have zero room for anything else. No matter how small or minute, how special or obscene, silly or necessary. There has been no extra room because I've made it that way. I've been stressing out trying to figure how to fit it all in without it just overflowing like those dumplings.  And my stress level is beyond maxed.

But you see, God gave us the perfect size pot that He thought we needed. If we think we need more room, than we should reach up to Him and allow Him to show us the way. Instead of adding all of those extra ingredients, we should follow the perfect recipe and allow Him to do the tweaking.
That's what I'm gonna do.

So here I am Lord.
Stripped down.
Bare bones.
No extras.
None of the fancy, schmancy schtuff.
Take my heart Lord and form it.

Now in the case of the dumplings, a bigger pot was necessary. There was no way that all of that goodness was gonna stay put. But, for us, let us be content with our small pot and the simple things inside.

  1. I love love love this post! It's amazing when God teaches us lessons while we're just doing our thing. Thank you for sharing. Do you know the old hymn Take My Life and Let it Be? It's one of my favorites. Hope you are having a great weekend and I hope you all are on the mend! xo
