The Adventure of Making Pasta

A while back, I tried to convince my dear sweet husband to buy me a pasta attachment for my mixer so I could make my own ravioli from scratch. I used the argument that it would be healthier, cheaper, and mostly fun. It worked very well and it was only a week after that my pasta roller sat in my mail box.

Well, that was 2 months ago. Mmm..hmm. I know. I'm horrible. But, with colds/flu/Rosella (or whatever it was) and 24 hour bugs that swiped our house, we've been busy trying to get back to our normal "norm."

While watching tv the other day, the girl that was cooking was making homemade pasta and I took that as a big sign that it was time to pull out my pasta roller.

Today I woke up and thought, "HEY! Let's make some pasta!" And we did.

Here's my recipe and some steps for success:
2 cups flour
2 eggs
1 T olive olive
1 t salt

Pour your flour onto a board or counter. Make a bowl in your flour for your eggs. Crack your eggs in a bowl to keep from having some brave eggshell escapees. Slowly work your flour into the center, working around your flour bowl. Eventually your eggs will be worked in enough to where they won't flood the board. Then you can begin to knead it like you would bread. You'll do this for 7-10 minutes.

After you've got it all together, form a nice ball and cover it with wrap. Put it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. You can do this a day before if you're trying to get ahead.

When you're ready to roll out your pasta, you'll cut the ball into smaller sections. It rolls better this way.
Then you just roll it out. Thicker first, thinner as you go. Eventually you'll have a long roll of smell good pasta. And if you're lucky like I was, you'll have some little seux chefs to help you along the way...

The girls are finally able to wear their aprons that I made a long time ago for them. They're still a little big on them...okay...a lot...but it works. They are so lovably scrumptious!!

We didn't make ravioli, but we did make enough pasta to have it for supper. The girls cleaned their plates and Mike was impressed. Money not wasted on a much needed expensive attachment. Now, I haven't learned how to save the pasta. I'm sure with a little research I could figure it out.

It was fun and that's rally all the matters. Soon enough I'll have 4 extra hands to help stretch out the dough. Oh then it'll be extra fun and exciting and maybe then their aprons will fit better.
