Full Disclosure: Kitchen De-Clutter

The point had been reached. I was at my peak for being irritable with my favorite room of the house. Dear little kitchen, how could you bother me so?

I had gotten to the point where my kitchen was attacking me every time I attempted to accomplish something. Bowls raging with the slight opening of a door. Spice containers plummeting to their demise. Spoons and tongs hanging on to each other for dear life. What was the deal?

Organized Chaos...
that's what!

A long time I ago, I attempted to create some sort of organized system for my little kitchen of paradise. I bought absolutely nothing to help with the matter, only using what I had on hand. Maybe that's where I made the mistake. I'm not sure. I decided though, that I had reached the final straw. I was tired of being mocked by my kitchen...so here's where I started fighting back.

I gave myself 20 minutes to organize the drawers...to sort through everything and determine a donate and keep pile. I think this was the way to go. I set my kitchen timer to 20 and off I went. I admit it was so much easier than I imagined it would be.

Say hello to Drawer #1.

This drawer holds majority of my kitchen what-nots. Can opener, apple core-er thingy, pizza cutter, kabob sticks, pastry sheets, peeler, pasta roller....and on and on it's goes. Yes those are baking tins that are holding all the junk...clever yes. Practical? ehh...the jury's still out.

I happened to glance over at my basket sitting on the floor when it hit me.
 Why not take this...

...and do this...

Yep you guessed it! I took all the things that I didn't use on a daily basis but still needed and sorted them in this basket. I put it up on top of my fridge to keep my small cook book collection company.

I love it! Mainly because Drawer #1 now looks like this. Remember the green paper from our undersink project? Well, I carried it on through out the kitchen drawers. Yay!!!

The excitement continued with Drawer #2.
I pulled out all the spoons and such and went through them all. I never knew I had this many!

So after a bit of weeding, this is what I was left with. Pretty lovely huh?

Drawer #3 and 4 were pretty easy. I tossed all the older towels into the "rag" box and that was that.

I was even left with an almost empty Drawer #4

And this drawer is my enemy. It always seems to end up a wreck. However, conquer I must.

And conquer I DID!!!

I would love to go out and buy a new utensil organizer. This is the one we used when we lived in Louisiana when our utensil drawer was 3/4 of this size. Our neighbor sawed a big portion of it off for me...I'm using what I have until I can get something that fits. *smile*

So overall, I'm in love with my newly organized chaos. With a small kitchen like we have, it's difficult at times to imagine the best way to work with things. I think I've figured it out though. It's been two weeks and it still looks good.

Now for that dreaded junk drawer...Drawer #5...

eeek!!!!

  2. Thank you for the inspiration. I need to rethink my kitchen drawers and cabinets and pantry. I like the basket idea for things I don't use very often. I like how you put pretty paper down and little organizing baskets. Making it look special is a great motivation to make me keep it looking that way. I think I know what I will be doing today.:)
